Librarian Statement of Elizabeth
Education is ever changing and has taken on a new dimension.
Due to the expansion of information, increased digitalization of text, the
demand for critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaborative
problem solving; it is imperative that the library be an integral part of the
total curriculum and educational institution. One of the primary goals of
education is to empower individuals to define and identify the information
needed, select the best resources, locate and organize the information within
the sources, evaluate the resources by extracting relevant information through the process of organizing, analyzing, and presenting it in a comprehensible manner. An
integral library, as part of the total curriculum and educational institution,
will provide students and instructors with the ability to access quality
information from diverse perspectives, create new knowledge, and share their
new-found knowledge with others, fostering a lifelong interest in information
literacy and learning. Every student and professional should have access to an
effective integrated library which reflects the curriculum, and the needs of
the educational environment and the world in general.
§Model and embrace a commitment to lifelong
education and the love of learning.
§Provide comprehensive instruction in information
literacy and library pedagogy.
§Encourage, empower, and promote lifelong
education and a passion for information literacy.
§Teach others to respect the diverse perspective
of individuals, fostering collaboration and the sharing of knowledge.
§Develop and maintain a library collection which
supports the educational environment and curriculum of the educational
institution.
§Encourage, promote, and utilize technology for
the enhancement of the educational experience.
§Provide creative programming which will
encourage and foster lifelong learning, the sharing of knowledge, creativity,
and collaboration.
§Promote collaborative educational efforts
between the educational environment and the community.
§Collaborate with other professionals for the
provision of instruction, learning strategies, and practice with essential
learning skills.
§Provide a warm, stimulating, and safe library
environment.
§Adhere to the guidelines and standards
